Catherine Lucignani is a personal historian located in Grapevine,
Texas. She completed her Bachelor's degree in History at Texas Woman's
University, and her Master's degree in Native American and Western U.S.
History at the University of Wyoming.
Her interests in personal history began as a young girl discussing her
own family history with relatives, as well as discussions with older
neighbors and friends who plied her attention with cookies and sweet
tea, and then piqued her interest with fascinating stories of their life
experiences. These encounters clarified the value of understanding one's
background and ancestry, as well as a growing awareness of the rapidly
diminishing number of people with such first-hand knowledge.
Her formal education in Native American history and ethnohistorical
research allowed a vivid context for the application of oral historical
evidence. When preserved and archived, it serves as an invaluable
resource for academic and historical analysis, adding a unique dimension
into our understanding of the past. Recorded personal histories provide
an important contribution to this historical record as well as an
exceptional heirloom for our descendants.
